President William Ruto has appointed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as the acting Cabinet Secretary for all ministries.
A special Gazette Notice dated 11 July said that Mudavadi would, henceforth, take over the functions of Cabinet Secretaries in all ministries. "That pursuant to Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary in all vacant ministerial portfolios," it read.
The appointment follows a major shakeup last week where President Ruto fired all his Cabinet Secretaries. This was formalized as the head of state communicated the dissolution of the cabinet, signaling that all the 21 posts, including the Attorney General, are now vacant.
Ruto said the review and re-organization of his Government was to institutionalize operational improvements and enable responsive governance. He said that the decision followed overwhelming feedback from Kenyans on the performance of government in executing its mandate.
"Now therefore, I, William Samoei Ruto—President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, by the Authority vested in me by the Constitution and the Laws of the Republic of Kenya, do hereby order and direct that in accordance with Article 152 5, of Constitution, the Cabinet Secretaries listed below have been dismissed from office as stated," the notice reads.
